What I’m doing now
Last updated August 8, 2020.
Sheltering in place has not done great things for my physical or mental health. I found myself gravitating toward the easy instead of necessary. I move less, sit more, and eat worse. Um…
“People do not decide their future. They decide their habits and their habits decide their future.”
~F. Mathias Alexander
So I created a daily checklist of 17 actions supporting me at my best. These are simple, foundational things such as meditation, 100 total pushups, vitamins, and contacting a friend. I find when I do them, my life works better and when I don’t, it doesn’t.
I cut out alcohol, reduced caffeine, and drastically reduced sugar. I feel better, more alert, more focused, and sleep better after just a few days.
Books I’m currently reading:
- The Infinite Game by Simon Sinek (Audiobook)
- Attempts by Dan John
- Staying Focused in a Hyper World, Book 1 by John Gray, Ph.D.
Challenges I’m contemplating:
- Spartan Sprint, date/location TBD in 2021
Recent purchase I’m excited about:
A kneeling chair. Hoping it will improve my posture and reduce back pain and stiffness from sitting too long at my computer. It’s being shipped right now. I will update soon.
Simple thing that if I would just do it the cascading effects would create significant changes across many areas of my life:
- Walk 10,000+ steps a day. I find that working from home means I’m walking only 30-50% of what I did before. Not good.
